The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in collaboration with Merck Foundation will hold a health media training for selected Ghanaian journalists in Accra, on Thursday, February 28, 2019.

The training, will focus on the international standards and media ethics for reporting sensitive issues like infertility in Ghana and the rest of Africa. It will also enhance the understanding of journalists on infertility issues in African communities.

In a statement issued and signed the General Secretary of GJA, Kofi Yeboah and copied to the Ghana News Agency, the one-day Merck Health Media training will also afford the participants, drawn from the entire country, the opportunity to learn the best media practices to cover such issues.

Meanwhile, Merck Foundation, philanthropic arm of Merck KGaA Germany, in partnership with the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, who is also the Ambassador of ‘Merck More Than a Mother’, has also announced the opening of the application period for the ‘Merck More Than a Mother’ Media recognition Awards 2018 for Ghana and the rest of Africa.

The winners will be announced during the 6th edition of Merck Africa Asia Luminary, which will be held in Accra in October 2019. The event will be co-chaired by Dr. Rasha Kelej, CEO of Merck Foundation and Ghana’s First Lady.

The applications are invited by media professionals to showcase their work to raise awareness about infertility prevention and breaking infertility stigma in Ghana and rest of Africa. Journalists from print, online, radio and multimedia platforms are eligible to apply for the competition, with June 30, 2019 as the deadline.

Entries can be submitted via email to [email protected], in the categories, and with the prizes, following: Multimedia will receive a cash prize $ 3,000.00, print will receive $1,000.00, online will receive $ 1,000.00 whilst Radio will also receive $1, 000.00

The statement urged all journalists to compete for the awards and selected participants to also report on time for a successful training.
