The 2017, Ghana Information Technology & Telecom Awards(GITTA)has ended smoothly in Accra, as Mr Ebenzer Twum Asante, of MTN Ghana was crowned as the covetous “Chief Executive Officer of The Year.” Aside that, MTN Ghana also received awards in the categories of Customer Experience, CSR Company of the year, Mobile Money Service of the year, 4G/LTE Provider of the Year, and Cloud Service Provider of the Year as well as the Mobile Operator of the year.

The Company also won the IT Team of the year and Customer Service Team of the year. MTN’s Chief Technical Officer, Mr Mohammed Lawal Rufai emerged CTO of the Year.

Ghana’s Telecommunication Giant MTN, received all these awards under the leadership of the covetous “Chief Executive Officer of The Year.

Over the years, MTN as a company has demonstrated its leadership in the telecoms sector and these awards serves as a great testimony to the over 3 billion dollar investments that has been made to build the network.

The Ghana Information Technology and Telecommunication Awards (GITTA) which was organized by InstinctWaveAwards was aimed at recognizing customer service, innovation and excellence in the Ghana Telecommunication and Information Technology Industry.

More so, the awards which is in its 7th year, has in the past also recognized the contributions of companies which have taken efforts to innovate businesses through the adoption of technology.

In his welcome address the Chief Executive Officer of InstinctWave, Mr Akin Naphtal, stated unequivocally that GITTA has become one of the industry’s most prized honors.

This he said, it is an accolade given to individuals and teams and is a vindication of the hard work, innovation and dedication of those at the forefront of this dynamic global profession.

The Minister for Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, noted that government itself is beginning to see the benefits of the digital revolution.

“ Ghanaian entrepreneurs today are developing many innovative applications . Example include digital platforms for:

Improving farmers’ productivity and access to markets
Bridging educational gaps
Facilitating virtual doctors’ visits and authenticating drugs to reduce the incidence of counterfeiting
Transacting business online and
Paying for services from the privacy of their homes”, she hinted.

According to the Sector Minister, the potential impact of ICT is obviously enormous both at the macro and micro levels. The sector’s link to is well proven.

“ World Bank estimates for example that 10 percentage point increased in fixed broadband penetration could increase GDP growth by 1.38% in developing countries. At the micro level , ICT impact on various sectors- agriculture, health , education, trade , financial services and government services can be transformational,” she stated.

ICT has the potential to level the playing field for all citizens , regardless of income or social status.

This she said, there have been key initiatives such as the automation of Tax and Business registration systems which are already beginning to yield dividends , and upcoming digital platforms for procurement, immigration, parliamentary and judicial services which are likely to transform the way government engages with citizens and businesses .

The Sector Minister therefore reiterated her outfit commitment of supporting the IT and Telecommunication sector in the country, in partnership with the private sector to achieve the objectives of development, growth and new job creation.
