Stephen Gilbert MP

012, UK, Refugee News Network )-Stephen Gilbert MP has urged local residents affected by the flooding to seek help straight away and
to keep up to date with local news and warnings if worried about further downpours.
The recent floods have left properties damaged across Cornwall, the South West and now the rest of
the country. During the heavy downpours there were 25 flood warnings and 40 flood alerts across the
South West. The bad weather has now eased but residents are being urged to be vigilant.
The MP for St Austell & Newquay has urged those who have been hit by floods to contact their
insurers as soon as possible as well as ensure that anything people might need to claim for is
recorded or kept as most insurers want to see proof of damage. Most insurers normally react quickly
and will help find temporary accommodation in the worst cases, although individual cover may vary.

Stephen has also sought to reassure those who are worried about future floods to find advanced
warnings where possible and to keep abreast of local news bulletins.
Commenting, Stephen said:
?Once out of harm?s way, those who have been hit by flooding should seek help from their insurers,
where possible, straight away and remember to take photos so they have the proof to back up their
claims.
?If you?re worried you?re still at risk then please consult the Environment Agency, Cornwall Council or
Met Office. Remember to check local TV and Radio for updates in your area too.
?Of course, if anyone needs any help or advice from me, please get in touch?
