A photo uploaded to nairaland.com shows the crew reeling in a giant Manta Ray, which GrindTv.com reports was killed when it got tangled up with the ship’s anchor.

Off of the Nigerian coast, a giant, dead mantaray was hauled up after accidentally getting caught in the anchor line of an oil-rig.

The oil-rig workers took this photo, and then sold the giant carcass to a local fisherman.

However, the guy who posted the photo added a description that was not totally accurate. He described the manta as “The stinging Mantaray”, but actually they rays are docile plankton eating animals.

A giant manta can weigh more than a tonne and measure more than 30 feet across
