This came just a day after his ministry had issued a statement declaring an end to the Load Shedding exercise in electricity supply that had bedeviled the country continuously for two years.

A short statement received from the Presidency Friday said President John Dramani Mahama had accepted the minister’s resignation, and “thanked him for his services as the pioneer minister for the Ministry of Power.”

The ministry was created in November 2014, and Donkor, an energy expert, was appointed as the substantive minister.

Three months into his tenure the minister stated categorically that he would resign if he failed to end the energy crisis by the end of 2015.

Pressure therefore came mounting on him since November to make good his pledge of resignation as the energy crisis was anything but over.

In what looked more like a preemptive strike, the ministry issued a statement Wednesday, declaring an end to the Load Shedding regime.

However, the Load Shedding Management Committee issued a counter statement on Thursday contradicting the power ministry on the energy situation. Enditem
