Ghana’s Parliament on Tuesday approved a deal that will allow the use of Unarmed Aerial Vehicles, known ordinarily as drones, for medical delivery.

The approval means that the Ghana Health Service and its partner Zipline International Inc. will introduce the initiative that will ensure secure, reliable and timely deliveries of essential health care products to hospitals and other health facilities.

The service, which will be designed, installed and operated by the USA-based Zipline, will leverage technology to improve the supply chain of critical medical supplies, reduce waste and save lives, according to Ghanaian health authorities.

According to officials, Ghana will become the first country in West Africa to use such a delivery system when it is fully deployed next year. Enditem
