Ghana’s year-on-year inflation rate, which measures the average rate of increase in the prices consumers pay for their consumer goods and services remained at the same 7.8 percent rate recorded the previous month, the Ghana Statistical Service said here on Wednesday.
The monthly change rate, on the other hand, increased by 0.4 percentage points to 0.8 percent in March, compared with the 0.4 percent recorded in February.
“Food and nonalcoholic beverages remain the main drivers of the annual inflation going up to 47.2 percent in March, “the Government Statistician Samuel Kobina Annim said.
Under the non-food inflation, on the other hand, the contribution of transport and transportation went down further to 12.2 percent during the month under review.
There was a 3.2 percent differential rate between the inflation for locally produced goods (8.8 percent) and imported items (5.6 percent).
There is slack in the movement of people and transportation around the country with Ghana observing a partial lock-down of three major cities and a market community as part of efforts to contain and halt the spread of the new coronavirus in the country. Enditem
