Ghana’s main oilfield Jubilee field will average 2015 production at 100,000 barrels of oil per day (100,000 bopd), operators Tullow Oil plc have said.

This compares with the 105,000 bopd average performance for the first half of the year for the field that is in its fifth full year of production.

In their half-year report issued to shareholders on Wednesday, Tullow said the expected drop in projections was due to the breakdown of the gas compressor on the production vessel, FPSO Kwame Nkrumah, which had hampered gas export to the Gas Processing Plant (GPP) at Atuabo.

Jubilee field performance in the first half of 2015 averaged 105,000 bopd gross (37,300 bopd net) with a stable rate of gas off-take, averaging around 80 million standard cubic feet (of gas) per day (80 mmscfd), following final commissioning of the onshore gas processing plant in March 2015.

“This strong gas export performance significantly reduced the requirement for gas reinjection which allowed the effective capacity of the FPSO to gradually increase to around 115,000 bopd,” Tullow added.

This favorable situation was however interrupted with the breakdown of the gas compressor on the FPSO.
Gas export to the Ghana Gas facility at Atuabo has been suspended since July 2 as a result of a technical issue with the gas compression system.

“However, the strong performance in the first half 2015 has been offset by an unplanned technical issue that affected the gas compression system which has temporarily reduced oil production to approximately 65,000 bopd,” the statement disclosed.

It said the gas compressor is expected to be restored by the middle of August to restart gas export to Atuabo, but will consequently cause a reduction in annual average production to 100,000 bopd.

In the capital, residents enjoy electricity for 12 hours after every 24 hour outage, as the water level in the Akosombo hydro dam has continually diminished. Enditem
