Ghanaians vote in a referendum on Thursday to decide on government’s attempt to create six more political regions (provinces).

The proposed regions are Western North, Bono East, Ahafo, Savannah, North East, and Oti Regions. About 2.26 million registered voters are eligible to vote in the referendum being administered by the Electoral Commission in the six areas to be carved out of six existing regions.

Eligible voters would be expected to vote for or against the question: “Are you in favour of the creation of the region? Yes or No.”

For each of the affected areas there must be a 50 percent voter turnout and 80 percent voting yes to qualify for a region. Enditem
