The National Security Agency has appealed to Ghanaians to use the toll-free emergency number 999, responsibly to ensure effective response to genuine emergencies.
Mrs Akosua Dankwah, the Campaign Coordinator from the Ministry of National Security urged Ghanaians to avoid prank calls, which waste valuable resources, endanger lives and undermine trust in the security system.
Mrs Dankwah made these remarks at community engagement with stakeholders, traditional authorities, women, and youth wings during a sensitisation tour in the Oti Region.
Nana Afriam-Darko, the Regional National Security Coordinator for Oti emphasized attacks by extremist groups in West Africa countries.
He said porous borders in the sub-region have made Ghana vulnerable to the spread of terrorism, with neighboring counties such as Burkina Faso, Mali, Nigeria, and Cote d’Ivoire already experiencing insurgences.
The Regional National Security Coordinator has emphasized the importance of protecting the country’s democracy and said it was crucial for Ghanaians to remain watchful and report anything to be suspicious activities to ensure national security.
Community residents expressed a significant step towards ensuring national security by pledging to report unusual activities and collaborate with security agencies.
The “if you see something, say something”, community advocacy programme is an excellent initiative by national security to promote vigilance and encourage citizens to report suspicious activities”.
