The workers who were clad in red heard and armband poured out their frustrations and indicated that outsourcing the management of ECG to a private firm will also bring untold hardship to Ghanaians.

53851618.295The workers held placards with inscription like, ‘Stop ECG privatization now’, ECG can survive without politicians, ECG has the brain to turn around things’ during the parade.

Although President John Dramani Mahama says government does not have any intention of privatising the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the workers believe the introduction of a private company to manage part of the company’s operations, does not make it a wholly own state company.

The President of Ghana however stated that, “ECG is and will remain a wholly owned state enterprise’ explaining that government’s agreement under the Millennium Challenge Compact is to leverage private sector participation at the client level to assist in resolving clients problems, complaints and revenue collection.
