Ghana said it might pull out of next month’s Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup in South Africa if xenophobic attacks in that country build up.

Seven people have been killed in the current wave of xenophobic violence and thousands displaced, with immigrants from other African countries being the most affected.
The tournament will be hosted in South Africa’s North-West Province which has not been affected by the xenophobic violence outbreak.
But Fred Pappoe, management committee chairman of the local Black Stars team, said if the situation in South Africa doesn’t improve, Ghana will not hesitate to decline the tournament.
“Nobody will sacrifice his life for the tournament,” he told local media on Wednesday.
Ghana will replace Comoros Islands who have opted not to compete in the championship slated for South Africa from May 17 to 30.
The West African nation will be expected to become the first non-Southern African side to lift the trophy in the 17-year history of the regional showpiece. Enditem
