Power Outages

Ghanaians are beginning to feel the pinch of the return of long hours of power outages that authorities attribute to the shutdown of a gas processing plant.

The Ministry of Energy said operations at the plant, 329 km west of the capital, Accra, has stopped to make way for interconnection with the West African Gas Pipeline Company.

Ghana, which experienced crippling power shortage between 2013 and 2015, has grappled with mostly unplanned and unannounced power outages from the beginning of the year.

“Our hope… was to reduce drastically the impact of the inter-connectivity exercise,” deputy minister for Energy William Owuraku Aidoo said, acknowledging that the situation had created inconveniences for many people and businesses. Enditem
