?Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan is confident the Black Stars can break the Africa Cup of Nations title jinx by winning the title for the fifth time in South Africa.

The Black Stars are one of the favourites to win Africa?s biggest sporting event which starts on Saturday.

Ghana last won the competition 31 years ago in Libya and after reaching the final of the competition twice (1992 & 2010) since then which has kept their fans waiting for another title.

But their 27-year-old striker believes his side can break through and finally lift the trophy for a fifth time, starting with their group matches against Mali, Congo DR and Niger.

?I?m very hopeful we can break the jinx and end the long wait for the African title. No team can be underrated at this level. All four sides in the group are strong contenders,? Gyan said.

?We played Mali at the 2012 edition and saw their performance. Niger, though not a big team, have a strong side and can always cause an upset.?

Ghana will be missing several players including the likes of Michael Essien, Kevin Prince Boateng, Sulley Muntari and Andre Ayew.

Several youngsters have been brought into the squad as the Black Stars look to rebuild their squad for the future.
