The incident occurred when the President, John Dramani Mahama was on his way to Agordake in the Volta Region to commission a pontoon, as part of his “Accounting to the people” tour.

The accident vehicle was a Toyota Landcruiser which had been allocated to the press corps that accompanied the president.

Confirming the incident, the Minister of Communications, Dr Edward Omane Boamah said the injured were treated by the medical team that accompanied the president.

The accident vehicle was later towed away.

Last year the media bus conveying journalists assigned to the presidency was involved in a fatal accident on the Afienya-Dawhenya road when returning from an official assignment.

Scores of journalists are reportedly battling for their lives following the accident which occurred at Doryumu junction in the Shai Hills area in Greater Accra after they suffered severe head injuries.

The journalists were travelling in a Ford bus which was not part of the presidential convoy.

The incident at the time resulted in the death of a Ghanaian Times reporterwho was part of the presidential press corps.

The Times reporter, Samuel Nuamah was said to have died on the spot.

A total of 12 people were said to be on the vehicle, a GMC Savana Van with registration number GB 506 – 12, at the time of the incident.

According to the police the left rear tyre of the vehicle burst and in an attempt to control the vehicle, the driver applied the brakes and the vehicle veered off the road.
