Accra, 19 July 2012: Vodafone Ghana has refurbished the Communication unit of the Ghana Police Service, and installed a state of the art telephone equipment with enhanced call features that will allow the service to respond to crime reports speedily. With the installation of the PABX telephone system, personnel of the communication unit can now receive multiple calls from the public and treat in-bound calls with utmost confidentiality in a comfortable office environment.

The old setup presented challenges that restricted the smooth and swift operations of the Ghana Police Service.?? Prior to the new installation, the communication unit had only ordinary desk phone lines that could receive one call at a time. It had no caller identity and call waiting features that allowed the personnel to identify callers, or even return calls.? With the new equipment in place, the unit can now receive several calls at the same time, whilst identifying the identities of callers for follow-up purposes.

Speaking on the gesture by Vodafone, Ashley Ratcliffe, Director of Corporate Risk and Integrity at Vodafone Ghana, noted that ?Crime prevention is also the responsibility of individuals and corporate institutions. The Police Service needs support to serve and protect the people of Ghana continuously. That is why we have provided this new equipment that will boost the capacity of the service to combat crime. We are happy that we have alleviated some of ?the challenges? that the previous setup posed to the Service.?

He further noted that ?Vodafone has been at the forefront of fighting crime, and our numerous collaborative activities with the Ghana Police Service is a fact millions of Ghanaians can testify to. We have undertaken joint operations with the Police to bust several SIM fraud operators located in different parts of the country. This latest support to the Ghana Police Service is further proof our commitment to augment the crime prevention activities of the Police Service?.

On her part, the Director-General in charge of Administration, COP Rose Bio Atinga, ?thanked Vodafone Ghana for their great gesture, noting that ?with this new equipment, our efforts at fighting crime will be enhanced tremendously.?
