Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has criticized the Office of the President’s recent denial of involvement in a land dispute with the Ghana International School (GIS).

Ablakwa claims that the presidential statement is prejudicial and casts doubt on the effectiveness of any investigation prompted by the President’s complaint to the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

In an interview on TV3’s Key Points on September 14, Ablakwa asserted that state capture is a tangible issue, not an exaggeration, and emphasized that many people share their experiences.

He argued that citizens have a right to transparency regarding the management of state resources and should be able to enjoy their properties without fear of harassment.

He criticized the current situation as akin to a “banana republic” where political power is misused, suggesting that the President’s statement regarding the GIS land dispute was made in bad faith and would undermine the investigation’s credibility.

The Office of the President denied involvement, stating that no official or agent was directed to interfere with the GIS land.

The President’s Office clarified that Chief Superintendent Ibrahim Opoku of the VVIP Unit acted professionally by reporting an altercation at the Cantonments barrier to the police.

The statement, issued on September 5, also mentioned that Opoku submitted his credentials at the police station as required by standard procedures.

In response to the Office of the President’s denial, the President has filed a formal complaint with the IGP to investigate the matter. The President’s Office has urged the public to disregard any contrary statements as false.
