Property valued at GHc 2,883,725.00 was lost to fire within the first three months of the year, in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Kwaku Semekor Fiadzo, the Regional Fire Officer, has announced.

He added that a total of 343 fire outbreaks were recorded in the region during the period.
Domestic fires topped the cases (135), followed by bushfires (59), vehicular fires (57), commercial (37), industrial (15), electrical (14) and the others (14).
Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO) Fiadzo, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that compared with last year’s same period figure of 743, there was a 53.83 per cent reduction.

The decline, he said, was the result of the scaled-up fire safety education, day and night patrol of major markets and outreach programmes mounted by the fire fighters.
He said they would not be complacent but continue to work hard to sustain the momentum to keep fire outbreaks on downward trend.

Mr. Fiadzo reminded the people to heed safety education and do the right things to prevent fire disasters.
They should make sure that they switched off their electrical gadgets before leaving their homes and offices.
He also encouraged them to engage only professional electricians to undertake any electrical installation or fix problems.
