Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has announced a GH₵50 million allocation to operationalize Ghana’s National Research Fund during Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s 58th Special Congregation.
Addressing graduates on June 28, 2025, Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming academic innovation into national development, stating: “Nurturing thinkers and innovators is central to Ghana’s progress.”
Her address endorsed Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s earlier call for youth empowerment in academia, aligning it with President Mahama’s development agenda. “Faculty and students must produce policy-relevant research,” she urged, framing the fund as catalytic for homegrown solutions.
The ceremony’s pan-African significance was underscored by the presence of Eswatini’s King Mswati III alongside Otumfuo.
Opoku-Agyemang personally conveyed President Mahama’s congratulations to graduates, challenging them to apply knowledge toward Ghana and Africa’s advancement. The research fund aims to bridge theoretical work and practical implementation, particularly in STEM fields critical to national priorities.
