The Minister of Health, Alex Segbefia, made this known on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday when he was responding to a Parliamentary question filed by the Member of Parliament for Effiduase/Asokore constituency, Frank Boakye Agyen.

The MP wanted to know whether the Ministry of Health has been able to employ all newly trained Ghanaian medical doctors and if so, how many and where have they been posted.

According to the Minister, a total number of 486 Doctors have been posted since September 2014 and out of these, 268 newly trained medical doctors were posted from May to June 2015, while the remaining 218 were posted in September, 2014. This number, he added, is made up of Dental and Medical officers from all Medical Schools in Ghana and abroad.

He observed that, ?they have been posted to all the Teaching Hospitals and some Regional Hospitals for 1st year Housemanship/Internship. This is in compliance with Medical and Dental Council?s requirement on Housemanship.?

In a response to the cause of the delay in the posting of these new doctors, the Minister observed that it came to the notice of the government that the processes of recruitment and getting new workers on government payroll was delaying and as the result the first badge of doctors that were posted as at September 2014 have still not received their salaries.

Therefore the posting of the next badge of doctors was deliberately delayed to make sure that their posting will be in sync with their clearance with the Accountant General?s Department to shorten the gap between the period of employment and registration.

This information is coming out at the time where Doctors have served notice of their intention to resign on a mass scale because of matters concerning their conditions of service.
