wpid-football.jpgKumasi Asante Kotoko will seek to make it three successive championships in a roll as the 2013/14 football season in Ghana kicks off this weekend.

This season?s championships will see International (Inter) Allies making the debut in the Ghanaian top-light after gaining entry via the middle league play-offs after winning Zone Three.

Sekondi Hasaacas and Bechem United return to the elite division after winning Zones Two and One respectively to compete with the other clubs seeking to wrestle the title away from Kotoko.

The Porcupines have won the last two editions of this campaign and have been tagged as the odds on favourites to win yet again as the new season begins.

They open the defence of their title with a home game against Aduana Stars at the Coronation Park in Sunyani and would hope to start on a bright note by collecting the points at stake.

The Reds are honouring this game in Sunyani as they serve the last of the three match home ban imposed by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after their fans rioted during last season?s second round league encounter with Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

This is not expected to be an easy game for the Champion Club as they found last at the close of last season when they played Aduana Stars at the same venue when they began the first of that three game home ban.

That fixture ended one all and it could be a similar result on Sunday unless Kotoko prove that they had the better of the pre season preparations.

Premier club, Hearts of Oak trek to the Nana Gyamfi Park in Bekwai to face the might of New Edubiase United in a game they will feel confident of winning after picking the points there last season.

The home side will have something to say about that though as they have vowed to challenge for the title this season, and, winning at home would be crucial to that ambition.

Berekum Chelsea will be at home to King Faisal as the two log horns at the Golden City Park at Berekum. The Blues will hope to start their campaign on a positive note as they seek to win the title a second time.

Heart of Lions will welcome AshantiGold to their Kpando base in a game they will seek to win after losing at that venue to the same opposition for the last two seasons.

Back-to-batan Sekondi Hasaacas plays Medeama SC at the Essipong Stadium in a Western regional derby; Liberty Professionals hosts Wa All Stars at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra with Bechem United playing Amidaus Professionals at Bechem.

However, action in the GPL kicks off this Saturday at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra where debutants Inter Allies plays Ebusua Dwarfs where they will look to win their first point(s) in the Ghanaian top-flight league.
