The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has condemned Sunday’s violence and shooting incidents that occurred at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, the second-largest city in the country.

The incident occurred after disgruntled fans of Asante Kotoko vented their anger at the referee for poor officiating in their side’s 1-0 home defeat to Berekum Chelsea in the week three premier league encounter.

The violence turned tragic when a fan was shot in the eye by the police as they attempted to disperse the crowd.

In a statement issued in Accra, the GFA said it takes a dim view of violence at all league centers and totally condemns what may have precipitated the unfortunate development at the stadium.

The GFA said while it conducts its own inquest from designated matchday officials to find out the exact cause of the unfortunate incidents, it called on the police service to also conduct a thorough investigation, especially on the alleged shooting incident.

“The GFA wishes to assure the general public that it has zero tolerance for violence, and in accordance with our regulations, will deal ruthlessly with any official or club that is found to have breached our GFA Regulations and GFA Disciplinary Code,” said the statement. Enditem
