ACCRA, Oct. 18 ?? The government of Ghana will deepen citizen-based social accountability in its governance process, Prosper Douglass Bani, Chief of Staff to President John Dramani Mahama, declared here?on Friday.

? ?In that respect, government will develop mechanisms for promoting citizen-based monitoring and evaluation of public policies and programs,? he added.
?? The Chief of Staff made these promises to round off the three-day Fourth National Policy Fair, which opened here?on Wednesday.
? ?Citizens would also be enabled to provide feed-back and suggestions on ways of improving the targeting of social and economic development,? Bani added.
?? The Chief of Staff underscored the need to give civil society limitless space to participate in the governance system, to ensure a healthy growth of the democratic governance in the country.
? ?With open hands, we embrace all private organizations who are ready to be involved with government to draw up vital initiatives and policies targeted at developing Ghanaians to bring about sustainable economic growth,? he intimated.
?? The government over the last four years has organized National and regional policy fairs to serve as a meeting place of ideas between the public sector, on one hand, and citizens on the other hand, with ideas and suggestions collected and collated to inform future policy decisions and changes.
?? ?It is my hope that suggestions and contributions made by both the discussants and audience will be collated and packaged for disseminations and submission to appropriate authorities to help policies in the subject areas that were discussed,? Bani urged.
?? Paul Victor Obeng, Senior Advisor to the president, maintained that there was hope and those who looked well would find them
??? Obeng, who is also Chairman for National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), urged that the end of the fair should not signify the end of the discussion process, but must be carried out through the appropriate channels created by government.
?? The fair, which was opened by President John Dramani Mahama, saw all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) mounting exhibition stands with documents and videos of their policies, activities and programs available for visitors. Enditem.
