Former Ghanaian international, Ahmed Apimah Barusso, has said players of the Black Stars deserve every penny paid them for playing for the country.

There have been calls for winning bonuses of the national team to be slashed as some Ghanaians feel the players are already well-to-do.

But speaking to Class Sports, Barusso said there was no retiring package in Ghana for footballers and so the players deserve their bonuses.

“Those who say the players do not deserve the money they earn, I don’t agree with them. They should put themselves in the players’ shoes to know how it feels when they are done playing football. So, I believe the Black Stars deserve the $10,000 they want. Jerry Akaminko got injured and found it difficult to get a club, did anyone think about him? In Ghana, we don’t have a retiring package for our footballers unlike in Europe, and you can see many great players who played for Ghana are now living in difficult conditions. So, I think the players deserve every cedi they ask for,” he stated.

Barusso played for the Black Stars at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2008, but the former AS Roma player has found it difficult to get back into the national team.
