Ghana await World Cup draw

Ghana will find out its group opponents at next year?s World Cup later today when the grand draw is conducted at Costa do Sauipe in the Brazilian state of Bahia.

The Black Stars are placed in Pot 2 alongside the four other qualified African teams, Chile and Ecuador.

This means there is the possibility of Ghana drawing host nation Brazil ? who are in pot 1 ? and even playing the South American giants in the opening game of the 2014 World Cup.

The Black Stars can also face recent foes Uruguay ? who are also in Pot 1 ? in what will be a replay of the painful quarter final defeat that denied Ghana a place in World Cup history.

Either ways, Ghana will certainly draw one of the world giants placed in Pot 1 with the remaining teams being Germany, Argentina, Spain, Belgium and Switzerland.

The Black Stars will also draw one of Japan, Iran, South Korea, Australia, United States, Mexico, Costa Rica and Honduras who are in Pot 3.

A much tougher looking Pot 4 houses Bosnia-Hercegovina, Croatia, England, Greece, Italy, Netherlands Portugal, Russia and France.

Ghana making its third straight appearance at the World Cup are praying to avoid a tough group to enhance its bid of going all the way to at least making a semi final berth.

?A draw is a draw. You have very little input into it. You can?t really determine which opponent you play but you always pray that you get a favourable opponent,? GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi said.

?Having qualified to the World Cup, you must also brace yourself to the task and the challenge that you are going to meet strong opponents.

?Ghana have been placed in Pot 3, it means that that teams which rank higher than Ghana on the FIFA ranking are in Pots 2 and 1.

?There are even strong teams, some of them even former World champions who are in Pot 4, namely Italy and France.

?It means that it?s going to be a very challenging task. We just need to know who are opponents are and we can plan out the necessary strategies to contain and overcome whatever threat they will pose our team.?

Ghana will be making its third successive appearance at the World Cup following progressive stints in 2006 and 2010 in Germany and South Africa respectively.
