The Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo, at the close of the 2nd meeting of the Ghana-Côte D’ivoire joint committee on the implementation of the ITLOS judgement at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on 10th August, 2018, has indicated that, Ghana and Côte D’ivoire has finally come to the same consensus in plotting the ITLOS coordinates.

Mr. Yaw Osafo Marfo, head of the Ghanaian delegation said, “we have plotted all the coordinates, 7 of them and we have now determined the maritime boundary as announced by the ITLOS in October last year. So now we can say that, we have a maritime boundary agreed upon between Ghana and Côte D’ivoire.”

The Coordinates according to him was provided by the International Tribunal for Law of the Sea (ITLOS) in its judgement of the boundary dispute brought before it by Ivory Coast, to assist both parties to draw the line that separates the countries.

Mr. Yaw Osafo Maafo explained that, at the end of the 2-day event both parties had come in consensus on a review done on the October 2017 ITLOS judgement.

The Senior Minister also added that, the document indicated the plotted coordinates will be prepared and made known during a third meeting of both countries in Cote d’Ivoire in October 2018.

He said, in order to avoid any future misunderstanding between both countries regarding discoveries of natural resources along the border of both countries, the two parties have agreed to draw guidelines that will determine how to go about such occurrence.

The Ghanaian delegation included the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, the Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Gloria Afua Akuffo, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Energy, Mr. Lawrence Apaalse, Rear Admiral Beick-Baffour of the Ghana Armed Forces (Navy).

The rest were Mr. Richard Addo-Darko and Nana Adusei Poku of GNPC, Mr. Francis Ackah of Petroleum Commission and Mr. Isaac Larbi of the Survey and Mapping Division.
