The Ghana Education Service has advanced plans to implement emergency safety protocols for schools facing violent threats.

This follows recent reports of security incidents at Bawku Senior High School, Zuarungu SHS, and Nalerigu SHS in the Upper East and North East regions.

According to an official statement dated July 29, 2025, GES is collaborating with the Ministry of Education, WAEC, and regional education directors to ensure SHS 3 students can safely sit for the upcoming WASSCE. Special examination arrangements and secure centers are under active consideration to guarantee fair testing conditions.

For SHS 1 and 2 students in affected institutions, GES confirmed it is exploring alternative learning avenues while campuses remain closed for safety assessments. The service simultaneously called for an end to persistent conflicts, urging stakeholders and security agencies to uphold educational sanctity.

This response follows recent student deaths at Nalerigu SHS and Bawku SHS, which prompted the temporary closure of Bawku Senior High School after a campus shooting incident.
