Germany and Australia have agreed to establish a joint advisory group as part of moves marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations, the government in Berlin announced on Wednesday.

The group’s aim will be to help boost trade and investment between the two nations as well as promoting cultural links and scientific collaboration.

The advisory group, which includes representatives from across German and Australian political, business, cultural and scientific life, will hold its first meeting in Berlin in July before presenting a report to Merkel and Abbott later this year.
