Steinmeier is accompanied by members of the German parliament, as well as business and cultural delegations, according to an advisory from the German embassy in Kampala.

Steinmeier will meet foreign affairs minister, Sam Kutesa, and ministers John Byabagambi (works and transport), Irene Muloni (energy and minerals) and Ephraim Kamuntu (water and environment).

Over the two days, the German minister will meet President Yoweri Museveni and separately hold talks presidential candidates Amama Mbabazi and Dr Kizza Besigye.

He will also witness the signing of an agreement for a building contract for the Bukasa Port (harbour) between German firm Gauff GmbH & Co Engineering KG and Uganda government officials.

Steinmeier will then head to Tanzania on Sunday, the last stop of his four-day tour to Africa that started in Zambia on Friday.
