George Quaye, Public Relations Officer of Charterhouse, Ghana Music Awards organizers claims money given to winners at the awards scheme is just an incentive, and not necessarily for winning.

He told Kwame Dadzie, host of Flex on Pluzz that the money is to encourage the nominees to attend the event.

“I am one person who has always believed that winning an award is not about money. The plaque is what tells that you have won an award and not the money. Now the reason prize monies are not given to winners who are absent at the ceremony is that, the money is basically an incentive to encourage nominees to attend the ceremony.” he said.

“However, there are exceptions and that is for the organizers to decide. If for any reason a nominee cannot attend and he gives the organizers prior notice, they may be considered.” Nii Ayite Hammond, Chairman of the VGMA Board added.

Award winners at the prestigious event is entitled to 3, 000 cedis whilst the Artiste Of The Year, which is the topmost award gets 10, 000 cedis.

This year’s event will take place at the Accra International Conference Center on May 7, 2016.
