Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has cautioned Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, key witness for the petitioners to quit defending the indefensible to save the little integrity he has left.

He said the economist risks losing credibility if the evidence they have presented in court failed to overturn the 2012 presidential election results in their favour.

Asiedu Nketia made the comment on Asempa FM?s Ekosii Sen programme Monday as court proceedings in the Election Petition hearing entered day 11.

Dr. Bawumia for the past 11 hearings of the ongoing Presidential Election Petition led evidence to justify why over 4 million votes in the 2012 election should be annulled. He has also been subjected to rigorous cross-examination by counsel of the three respondents who have described the allegations by the petitioners as ridiculous.

On day 11 of the proceedings, Tsatsu Tsikata, lead counsel for the NDC continued his fourth day of cross-examination of Dr. Bawumia.

The court room became quite heated when Tsikata sought to impugn the credibility of the witness by getting him [Bawumia] to admit that he and his team failed to do due diligence with the exhibits they tendered before the court.

Dr. Bawumia admitted there were some errors but maintained those errors went only as far as mislabeling but did not affect the analysis.

However, Asiedu Nketia on Ekosii Sen scoffed at the demeanor and facial impressions of Dr. Bawumia in the witness box claiming it tells a different story.

According to him, his party?s lawyer, Tsatsu Tsikata has succeeded in punching holes in the petitioners case during the cross examination.

The NDC scribe said the oath by Dr. Bawumia to provide a meritorious and convincing evidence to overturn the verdict of the Electoral Commission has proven to be futile.

General Mosquito as he is popularly known, stated that the petitioners have no credible evidence to support their claim of rigging in the 2012 presidential elections.

Asiedu Nketia who would be representing the second respondent [President Mahama] in court, has vowed to say nothing but the truth in court because according to ?the NDC has got nothing to hide?.

He urged Dr. Bawumia to stop throwing his ?dignity and integrity? away just to satisfy what he described as the selfish desires of one man whom he claims wants to be president at all cost.
