Lawmakers insist on better performance of the 2012 budget. | By Iferi Etuk

President Goodluck Jonathan will present the 2013 budget proposal to a joint session of the National Assembly on October 4.
Jonathan made the proposal in a letter to the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The House had warned last week it may not offer attention to the 2013 budget until it was satisfied with the performance of the 2012 budget which has pitted the House against the executive for months.
The House also warned it would consider  impeachment proceedings against the president if the implementation remained dismal by September.

Data provided by Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, last week, showed the execution rate stood at 25 per cent.
Although it seems unlikely, it is not yet clear whether the threat will be carried through.
Okonjo-Iweala had expressed a resolve to send the draft budget to the National Assembly timely.
She said that the executive arm of government had already engaged the relevant committees of the National Assembly in very fruitful discussions on the budget.
