President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday met with African Union Chairman, President Boni Yayi of Benin Republic and the Economic Community for West African States? Chairman, Alassane Quattara of Cote D? Ivoire  behind closed doors  over the proposed plans to send troops to Mali.

It was gathered that from the Presidential Villa, Abuja, venue of the meeting, both leaders will continue consultations over the pressing Malian issue  which was a major part of the discussions, Friday.

Speaking to State House Correspondents after the meeting Quattara described the meeting as fruitful saying it was convened to find lasting solution to the challenges confronting the sub region, particularly the development in Mali.

According to him, the decision to meet with Jonathan was borne out of his desire to seek his (Jonathan’s) support and advice on the challenges.

When quizzed further on the Malian issues, the ECOWAS Chairman who was a guest earlier at a ceremony of the National Defence College, Abuja, declared that the decision on Mali would be made public in a couple of days. “You will know the decision taken on Mali in the next few days.”

“I was invited by President Jonathan to the inaugural ceremony of the National Defence College.

“I participated in the ceremony for the Class of 21 graduates. The theme of the conference was ECOWAS as an instrument of Security and Peace.

Quattara had” he said.
