GBC Has Only Exposed Its Own Incompetence

By Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr., Ph.D.

??????????? The question is less of whether, indeed, the presidential candidate of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) appears on any of the extensive footage produced by the television department of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC-TV), than the fact of Nana Akufo-Addo?s having been accorded short-shrift treatment during the funeral of the late President John Evans Atta-Mills (See ?GBC Exposes Akufo-Addo & NPP? 8/14/12).

The predictable answer of the so-called National Democratic Congress?-leaning Informer tabloid was to rather cynically claim that Nana Akufo-Addo had not been? afforded the kind of media/footage prominence worthy of a major Ghanaian opposition leader, because this ?short man? had grossly erred, judgmentally, in deciding to pay his last respects to the mortal remains of Ghana?s most recently deceased premier in the company of such corporeally ?giant? political associates as former President John Agyekum-Kufuor and Messrs. Alan Kyerematen and Obetsebi-Lamptey. Is this ?Trokosi? logic or what?

Maybe, the abjectly ignorant editors of the Informer ought to be reminded of the fact that professionally well-trained cameramen and women, such as it is to be expected of employees of GBC-TV, invariably tend to know the precise angles and durations at which to train their cameras in order to afford due prominence to a national political giant like Nana Akufo-Addo, his remarkably diminutive stature notwithstanding.

What is interesting is that this is not the very first time that, caught with their pants down, as it were, key operatives and hirelings of the National Democratic Congress have cheaply, shamelessly and crudely attempted to brush off a clearly deliberate slighting of the NPP presidential candidate by an obscene reference to the size and height of the man.

It is also rather amusing to recall the fact that Nana Akufo-Addo, who was the first to offer his pledge of allegiance and friendship to the late so-called ?Asomdwoehene,? at a time that a bitterly triumphant President-Elect Atta-Mills would have nothing to do with his most formidable political opponent, is now being virulently accused of shedding crocodile tears for, as well as seeking cheap ?funeral votes? from, the man who had rudely, ignobly and deliberately ignored Nana Akufo-Addo at a durbar in the latter?s home court and stronghold of Kyebi.

??????????? On the preceding score, also, we hope Ghanaian voters have studiously taking notice.
