Is this a return to the days of criminalizing homosexuality? The Advocate newspaper seems to?think so, reporting incidences of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sherriff?s Office of illegally targeting gay men engaging in consensual sex. Deputies approach men in public places, invite them to private residences for sex, then arrest them for an ?attempted crime against nature,? says the Advocate. Louisiana has anti-sodomy laws on the books?that would make gay sex illegal, if it weren?t for a 2003 U.S. Supreme Court decision that ruled them unconstitutional. The?district attorney?refuses to prosecute arrestees for that very reason. Local LGBT activists say unlawful arrests have happened for the past for two years. A?sheriff?s office spokeswoman?told the Advocate, ?Whether the law is valid is something for the courts to determine, but the sheriff will enforce the laws that are enacted.??[Source]
