The Gambian delegation led by the Minister of Information and Communication Infrastructure Demba Ali Jawo has returned from a visit to Sierra Leone to show solidarity after a mudslide there killed hundreds of people, a statement from ministry said Tuesday.

Jawo said he held a meeting with Sierra Leonean President Earnest Bai Koroma to express sorrow over the disaster that struck Sierra Leone on August 14.

“I emphasized on the close social and family bond that exists between the peoples of the two countries since colonial era when the two former British colonies were jointly administered. Sierra Leone is a country where vast number of Gambians received their higher education,” he said.

During the visit last week, the delegation visited the disaster sites to find out the extent of the calamity.

The statement said Jawo’s meeting with President Koroma also discussed collaboration on security and trade. Enditem
