The Ga Mashie Development Agency (GAMADA) has expressed interest to support the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) and related organizations as part of efforts to discover and develop talent in the Ga Mashie area.

Executive Director Dr. Alfred Dodoo and his board met with federation officials and Ms. Christiana Choi, sister of Ghana’s Ambassador to South Korea, who has promised to support local boxing. The partnership signals growing international interest in Ghana’s amateur boxing scene ahead of the 2026 Amateur Boxing Championship.

Dr. Dodoo described boxing as the heritage of the Ga people and pledged to mobilize partners including the Chinese community and diaspora members who want to contribute. GAMADA operates under a mandate from the Accra Metropolitan Authority (AMA) to identify and nurture sporting talent in the historic Ga Mashie area.

The meeting brought together key federation figures including Vice President Nii Gonti Adjor I, also known as Nii Adama Addy, Second Vice President Solomon Otoo Lartey, Executive Member Sarah Lotus Asare, Treasurer Mustapha Nettey, Secretary Emilia Coach, and Dr. Ofori Asare. Mr. Lee, a Korean investor interested in Ghana Boxing, also attended alongside Ms. Choi.

GBF President Dauda Fuseni called the gathering unprecedented, historic, and special, noting that boxers from across Ghana came together for the discussions. He emphasized that the federation’s branding, transparency, and regional integration agenda has begun.

“The public must know what we do, giving opportunities to everyone, boxers and coaches,” Fuseni stated. He advised boxers not to become overconfident but to prepare thoroughly against complacency. The president welcomed more regional competitions to advance the rebranding efforts.

Fuseni announced that preliminary rounds of the championship begin Friday, January 30, with the final scheduled for late February. He urged boxers to deliver impressive performances to make the event attractive to spectators and sponsors.

The federation leader acknowledged that poor packaging has limited corporate support for amateur boxing in the past. However, the 2026 championship has attracted backing from Twellium Industries, Freight Consult, Base Pharmaceuticals, Promasidor, Madar Soap, and Guinness Ghana. Media partners include Omashi Media, Joy Sports, BoxingGhana, Ibox360, and Ghana Boxing News.

“We are taking health, medical and safety matters seriously and taking all precautions to give a good show. We are changing the narrative,” Fuseni assured. He stressed that boxing has achieved more than most sports disciplines in Ghana.

Ms. Choi, who models for a brand in China, expressed her desire to elevate Ghana Boxing to greater heights. She indicated plans to leverage international connections to boost the sport’s profile beyond national borders.

Mr. Lee spoke about cultural exchange possibilities and emphasized that Ga Mashie’s massive talent pool must be refined and exported to generate revenue and bring happiness to communities. His interest reflects growing Asian attention to Ghana’s boxing potential.

The partnership comes at a crucial time for Ghanaian amateur boxing, which seeks to rebuild its reputation and attract sustainable corporate investment. Federation officials hope international collaborations will provide both financial backing and technical expertise to develop young fighters.

GAMADA’s involvement adds institutional weight to grassroots talent development efforts in Accra’s traditional neighborhoods. The agency’s backing could help bridge the gap between raw talent and professional opportunities for aspiring boxers from disadvantaged backgrounds.
