“I am ready to discuss everything including presidential terms,” he told parliamentarians, but added that “this should be done within the legal framework.”

It is believed the remark by the president showed he is willing to discuss a review of the Constitution to limit the number of presidential terms.

According to the current Constitution which was reviewed in 2003, the president of the republic is elected for a seven-year term that is renewable several times. All political elections are held for one-round.

Opposition leaders have been calling for a review of the Constitution to limit the number of presidential terms to two, with each lasting for five years. They also want presidential elections to be conducted in two rounds instead of the current system.

Ali Bongo who is running for another term in the Aug. 27 presidential elections, has promised to work more to improve the well-being of Gabonese people, if he is re-elected. Enditem
