As part of its corporate social responsibility, The Ghana Free Zones Board last week made a cash donation of GHC 10,000 to the National Chief Imam, Dr. Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu to support and augment his efforts, as he strives to put smiles on the faces of the poor, the needy, the aged, orphans and other vulnerable groups in the society.

Presenting the cheque for the amount and copies of GFZB?s magazine to the Chief Imam at his residence at Fadama in Accra, deputy acting Executive Secretary of GFZB, Madam Oboubia Darkoh Opoku, commended the Chief Imam for his continuous benevolence to mankind regardless of one’s religious affiliation.
She explained that her outfit has been supporting the office of Chief Imam every Ramadan season since 2012, but this year?s donation which was to have taken place during Ramadan delayed because of certain unforeseen circumstances.
According to her the donation was GFZB?s widow?s might to supplement the Chief Imam?s efforts at feeding the needy and less privileged in the society who troop to his house daily for support.
Madam Darkoh Opoku stated that the GFZB has to be part of the Ramadan celebration because it is a month full of bountiful blessings not only to Muslims but the whole of Ghana, and by extension the world at large.
On her part, the Business Support Manageress of the GFZB, Hajia Hannatu Abubakar, called on other corporate bodies to support the Chief Imam, saying ?the Chief Imam cannot do the work alone?
She also urged Muslims to continue with the good work they have been doing during the Ramadan month. “Month of Ramadan”, Hajia Hannatu noted, “is the month of giving, blessings, forgiveness and love for each other and that Muslims all over the world must impact the positive lessons learnt during that month in their respective societies”.
?The National Chief Imam supports a lot of people in the society both Muslims and non-Muslims, hence the Board?s extension of a helping hand to him? she explained.
The National Chief Imam, on his part, thanked the GFZB for the kind gesture and prayed for more blessings not only for the Board but Ghana as a whole.
Sheikh Dr. Osumanu Nuhu Sharubutu explained that Ramadan, which is the ninth on the Islamic calendar, is the Month in which the Holy Quran was revealed, 30 days compulsory fasting was observed and it is the same month in which Muslims were encouraged to intensify their supplications, love for mankind and forgiveness amongst others.
Muslims during the Holy Month of Ramadan according him, prayed for Ghana, adding that he was hopeful the prayers have been accepted by the Almighty Allah and soon economic and other problems bedeviling the country will be a thing of the past.
