At least four pupils have died while three others were rescued on Wednesday after drowning while swimming at a public beach in the country’s coastal county of Kwale.

Kwale County Commissioner Evans Achoki said they retrieved four bodies of the students.

“Four pupils have been killed while the three missing ones have been rescued after search and rescue mission at the Diani beach,” Achoki said.

The seven, who drowned in the beach, are among 56 pupils, who were on an academic tour in the coastal region. They are from St. Martins, a private school in Central Kenya’s Murang’a county.
According to Achoki, preliminary investigations indicate that the pupils were swept by heavy current at the ocean.

“We have launched investigations and urge new pupils not to swim at ocean that is currently facing heavy storm due to bad weather,” Achoki said. Enditem
