Four outstanding women entrepreneurs were awarded the 2017 European Union (EU) Prize for Women Innovators on Wednesday.

Three of the four winners were Michela Magas who is the founder of Stromatolite, a British Design Innovation Lab, Petra Wadstrom who is the founder of Solvatten, producing a portable water purifier and water heater, Claudia Gartner who is the founder of ChipShop, providing lab-on-a-chip systems.

This Prize is funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 project.

According to the European Commission, a new category titled the Rising Innovators Award was created which is for excellent female entrepreneurs aged 30 or under.

The first winner of this Prize was Kristina Tsvetanova. She is the co-founder of the BLITAB Technology which produced the first tablet for blind users.

EU Prize for Women Innovators was launched in 2011. The aim of the Prize is to raise public awareness of the need for more innovation and more women entrepreneurs. Enditem
