Justice A. Newton-Offei, a former presidential staffer, has framed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 election loss as a strategic opportunity to reposition Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for a stronger 2028 presidential run.

In a publicly shared article, Newton-Offei argued the defeat exposed and weakened a “clique of greedy and selfish individuals” who he claims hijacked the Akufo-Addo administration.

“Had we won, this clique would’ve surrounded Dr. Bawumia, held him hostage, and derailed his vision,” he wrote, alleging the group treated the former presidency as “personal property” but vanished after the electoral loss without defending Akufo-Addo’s legacy.

Newton-Offei characterized the outcome as a chance to purge the party of negative influences and rebuild a “united, formidable, and acceptable image” ahead of 2028.

The former campaign aide pledged full support for Bawumia’s expected candidacy, vowing to help him secure the NPP flagbearership and presidency while keeping “arrogant characters at bay from corridors of power.” His remarks highlight ongoing factional tensions within the opposition NPP as it navigates post-election restructuring.
