Former Vice President of the African Court on Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR) Justice Sophia Akuffo is expected to be named the next Chief Justice (CJ) of Ghana, state-run Daily Graphic reported here early Friday.

She will become the second female CJ in the history of Ghana’s judiciary after the retiring Georgina Theodora Wood, who was appointed the first female head of judiciary some 10 years ago.

According to the Daily Graphic, its sources at the presidency said President Nana Akufo-Addo will name Justice Akuffo on Friday as new CJ.

With a Master’s degree in Law (LLM) from the University of Harvard in the United States, Justice Akuffo was appointed to the Supreme Court by former president Jerry John Rawllings in 1995.
