Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo
First Lady Wishes All Women Happy

As the World marks International Women’s Day on Friday, March 8, the First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has urged women to continually strive for progress.

She asked women to hold hands in ensuring they helped other women to succeed.
“Today marks International Women’s Day and my wish is that we continually strive for progress and hold hands in ensuring we help other women to succeed,” she said.

“Happy International Women’s Day,” the First Lady said in a message to mark the Day.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is a worldwide event that celebrates women’s achievements from the political to the social spheres while calling for gender equality.

It has been observed since the early 1900s and is now recognised, each year, on March 8.

The Day brings together governments, women’s organisations, corporate bodies and charities to celebrate the achievements of women worldwide.

It is marked with art performances, talks, rallies, networking and media events, conferences and marches.

Meanwhile the Office of the First Lady and the Rebecca Foundation had embarked on various activities including an interaction with street vendors and hawkers where Mrs Akufo-Addo provided some start-up capital and tools to the women.

She also held interactions with a number of women in positions of power and influence in the country, who were later introduced as mentors to young girls drawn from communities within the Greater Accra Region.

On Friday evening, the First Lady would host about 400 women across the country in Accra to climax activities of the IWD.
