A final-year visual arts student has been arrested in connection with the stabbing death of a fellow student at O’Reilly Senior High School.
The incident occurred on Monday, September 2, during a heated argument between the students over a dispute about their fathers’ wealth.
According to a cousin of the deceased, the altercation took place on the school’s premises and involved the victim, identified as Edward, and the suspect, Godwin.
The confrontation escalated, resulting in Edward being stabbed three times in the chest. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at LEKMA Hospital.
The cousin recounted the events, stating that Edward had recently finished an exam and had come to speak with them.
Shortly after, they heard a noise and learned that a fight had broken out between Godwin and Edward.
Initially, it was believed to be a minor disagreement, but it soon became apparent that it was more serious.
Stephen Abamfo, the Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, confirmed Godwin’s arrest and stated that a comprehensive investigation is underway.
“The student has been stabbed and unfortunately passed away. We have sent a delegation to the school to gather details, and we are working closely with the police,” Abamfo told Citinews on Tuesday, September 3.
The cousin of the deceased also criticized the school’s response, claiming that Edward had sought help from teachers who did not intervene.
She attempted to report the incident to her uncle, who was unavailable then. By the time she returned, Edward had already been stabbed.
She alleged that it was only with the help of a passerby that Edward was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The father of the deceased has demanded justice and accountability from both the school authorities and the family of the alleged attacker.
He expressed frustration over the lack of communication between the school and police, stating, “The school authorities have not provided any information, and we have not heard from the police or the attacker’s family. We want answers and justice for my son.”
The school authorities and police have not yet commented on the matter.
