Money is to help in preparation of athletes

The Federal Government has released the sum of N1.9 billion to the Nigerian team to the Olympic Games, Bolaji Abdulahi, the Minister of Sport disclosed on Monday.

The minister, who was speaking at an event organised by the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC), said the money is to help in the preparation of athletes for the Games billed for London from July 27- August 12.

The money is part of the over N3 billion appropriated early in the year by the federal government for the games.

The money will be spent on Team Nigeria’s proposed overseas training tour of Germany, England and South Korea.

Nigeria has already qualified for taekwondo, table tennis, athletics, canoeing, wrestling and weightlifting.

Nigeria will also participate in the Paralympics which comes up immediately after the Olympics.
