The Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC)has convened an emergency meeting to forestall any bloodbath between two feuding Muslim sects in the Tamale metropolis.?There have been reported clashes between combatants of the Ahlisuna and the Tijaniya Muslim sects in the Tamale metropolis during the Eid celebration.

According to reports, the situation?occurred?as result of varied interpretations of the Holy Qur?an on some radio stations in the Tamale metropolis during the period of Ramadan.

The Northern Regional Minister, Moses Bukari Mabengba ?said, what?happened?was needless renewed religious violence.

He said pragmatic measures have been put in place to prevent any spillover to other satellite communities in the area, adding that??It happened Sunday evening and fortunately for me all my security Commanders were in town and so we quickly moved in and averted the situation; we are holding an emergency meeting today after which we will have another meeting with all the leaders of the various Muslim sects to chart a new path towards curtailing such future occurrences.?

Mr. Mabengba took condemned the ‘faceless’ groupings that ignited the uncalled for situation and wondered their commitment to the tenets of Islam.

?I wonder how people can go to the extent of misbehaving in this manner when the period of Ramadan is expected to be the rallying point for Muslims to submit themselves to the will of Allah with love, peace, tolerance and forgiveness” he said.
