Aim to encourage more interest in agriculture

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has approved N300 million for agricultural empowerment across the six area council of the territory.

The Minister of State for the territory, Olajumoke Akinjide, disclosed this while on an inspection tour on farms in Kuchibui and Buita communities of Bwari area council of the territory.

Akinjide said that the community empowerment agricultural initiative was aimed at empowering women and youths in agro business; adding that the FCTA will support women in rural communities through capacity building and modern farming techniques.

“When we develop these communities, it will minimise the urban drift and even get more people coming into agriculture,? she said. ?I think this is very logical. I can?t see any minuses and I think when we spend more money on this kind of venture we will see that with N300 million from the FCT and the area councils support, we can transform the standard of living here and boost food production.”

The scheme is operational in 260 communities in the territory while the remaining communities will be covered by 2013.
