A 27 year old farmer is to serve the next 36 months in prison in hard labour for stealing his mother’s sheep and an amount of Ghc135.00 from her room at Kwahu Bepong near Mpraeso.

The farmer Kwadwo Owusu pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing and unlawful entry when appeared before the Mpraeso Circuit Court presided over by Mr. Kwaku Osei but was found guilty after trial.

The prosecutor Detective Inspector Andrews Anim Yirenkyi told the court that the mother of Owusu Mad. Abena Sefaa trade in livestock mostly sheep and goat while her son is well vested in skills of stealing such animals. He said, on the February 10th this year, the complainant locked her room and left the house but only returned to detect a theft of her sheep and her room broken into and an amount of Ghc135.00 stolen and suspected her son but all effort to trace him for his arrest failed and therefore reported the case to the police.

The prosecutor said the police later had information that Owusu was seen with a sheep heading towards Mpraeso and was later arrested in a different stealing case.

He said , in his caution statement he admitted stolen the money but denied stealing the sheep and after necessary investigation charged with the offence.
