The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on Friday delivered information and communications technology (ICT) equipment to Zambia’s Ministry of Green Economy and Environment aimed at enhancing environmental management and research.

The equipment delivered at a handover ceremony included computers and laptops which will support enhanced environmental tracking, surveillance, the development of ecosystem restoration programs and increased environmental research.

Suze Percy-Filippini, the FAO country representative, said the equipment has been procured under the organization’s national capacity strengthening on forestry, climate change and biodiversity aspects in Zambia aimed at building the ministry’s capacity on environmental issues.

She said the donation stands as a powerful testament to the organization’s unwavering commitment to advancing technological capabilities in the pursuit of sustainable environmental practices. She said FAO was committed to supporting Zambia in ensuring environmental sustainability and the attainment of a green economy.

According to her, FAO was committed to supporting Zambia to achieve its 2030 vision through addressing challenges in various sectors such as agriculture and the environment.

Collins Nzovu, the minister of Green Economy and Environment, thanked FAO for the ICT equipment, saying they will go a long way in improving environmental management. He said the geospatial analysis software installed on the computers will enhance the analysis of ecosystems in the country and improve the national reporting capabilities and generate reliable information for decision-making.

“I am confident that with this support, the environment sector will be transformed to enhance green growth, adaptation and mitigation, sustainable use and management of natural resources and environmental services,” he said.
